This decade saw the opening of the Melbourne Street Extension on 21 December 1891,  providing passengers with the convenience of travelling to South Brisbane rather than Wooloongabba (sic) Station. Stations on the Melbourne Street Extension opened at Park Road (now Boggo Road), Gloucester Street (now closed), Vulture Street (now South Bank), and South Brisbane (colloquially known as "Melbourne Street"). Cleveland line "infill" stations opened at Lindum and Wynnum South (now Wynnum Central).  The Cleveland Line was also extended 0.72 miles on 20 December 1897 to a new Cleveland terminus around half-way up Cleveland Point.
